Project goal
DigitalSOW2 builds directly on the success of the previous projects DigitalSOW (DTW I)
and SensorSOW (DTW II). Together, the projects are aiming to
further advance the automation of waterway transport. Unused capacities on main and secondary waterways in the Berlin metropolitan region are to be utilised for
supply and disposal transport using small, highly automated and, in the future, autonomous ship units. In this way, road freight transport is to be relieved and
congestion and emissions reduced at the same time.
Implementation
In DigitalSOW2, the software and system solutions developed in the previous projects for automated and autonomous transport processes on the waterway are being
further developed until they are ready for use and tested in practice with the test vehicle ‘Boris Kluge’ in the digital test field Spree-Oder-Waterway (SOW).
Specifically, this involves the further development of a digital assistance system and the implementation of V2X communication between the test vessel and the
landside infrastructure. Simulations will be created to evaluate the technical and economic feasibility of using the ‘Boris Kluge’ in multimodal transport processes
along the SOW. In addition, a ship detection system independent of neural networks (AI) is being developed in order to avoid problems with objects not included in
the training data.
Main dimensions „Boris Kluge“
